"Conservatives" betray their corporate core when they turn on Bush the way they've turned on everything else that reveals the bankruptcy of their ideas; that's the business model: you start with the answer and devise a campaign to achieve it.
Anything that contradicts the "answer"--even reality--is Wrong, and if you don't like it you can go work somewhere else. Bush will find that even the CEO is not above this mechanism.

[Read more letters about this article: Here]Slacking off isn't a bad suggestion--if the wife can get away with it. But that isn't always possible. The first-level boss might be capable of making her life miserable in ways she can't handle.
The real choice here is stay or go. Stay and try not to let it hurt personally, or start looking for another job. That's the solution here. Make time for it--just make time for it. They're out there.
That's the way to go. Bad organizations hold on to people who are afraid to look for something better; the wife or the husband need to either get her out of that company or out of that department. Leave it behind.

False Choices

Apparently Mr. Thompson and those like him would have us believe the choice here is between his notion of God--and science--and "moral relativism". Nonsense. An individual doesn't need God in order to behave, and neither does society. Ony those who wish to control others unjustly do.
As for Mr. Thompson's noting that Darwin included of the word "Creator"--with a capital C--in a version of "On the Origin of Species", all this proves is something we already knew: that Mr. Thompson cannot distinguish between matters of personal faith and matters of science. We don't teach Darwin's personal opinions on faith in biology class--because they aren't science.

Actually, they're mutually dependent.
You see, Jones, the Company is always right. Anyone who points out the Company is wrong is Wrong. You know what happens to people who are Wrong, don't you, Jones? We don't need Wrong people in the Company, Jones. We need Right people--people who recognize that the Company is always right.
I'd hate to think you were the wrong sort of people for the Company, Jones. That would be very bad, for the Company--and for you.
So, come back to work--and life, Jones. Out west the aspens will be shaking in their roots--because even the aspens, Jones, know that the Company is Always Right. Don't let the aspens be smarter than you, Jones.

Spare me. We're supposed to believe that all of Washington and half the Times' readership were suspicious of Miller's reporting--but Bill Keller had no idea there was anything to be concerned about?
Please. This mea culpa reads like a cut and paste of all the Times' previous mea culpas. Or mea culpae--whatever. Hollow.
The bottom line is that the Times printed all Miller's disinformation, then lept to her defense. Only now, after she buckled, are they forced to try to rationalize the whole thing.

The effort this requires is as unintentionally comic as her views on men, feminism, and dating. She clearly lives in her own world; whether it reflects reality or not is, well...not that interesting.
