Maybe we should move all maximum security prisons off US soil

If there is such danger with brining "terrorists" to US soil for trials maybe we should re-think how we handle murderers, rapists and gang members who happen to be US citizens. Rikers Island should be shut down and we can transfer all those dangerous criminals to Guantanamo, Syria or Egypt for detention. Then New Yorkers won't have to live in constant fear for their safety. Bolton can hide his family in the basement of his neocon friend's homes and feel safe. Look over there, the sky is falling!

The government should self insure their medical plans

Talk about waste in the system - most large employers self insure their medical plans (i.e. pay every dollar of every claim) in order to manage costs and be more efficient. What does the Federal Government do? They don't save money by self insuring their medical plans, they simply pay huge premiums to said insurers like the Blues, Aetna, UHC, Kaiser, etc.. You want to find some savings to help cover the expense of extending medical coverage to the uninsured, then start there! This is just another demonstration that elected officials have no clue about healthcare and how it can be made more efficient.

The question isn't can the Senate stand up, but why would they?

Given how much money big Pharma and the insurance industry lavish on our elected officials why would they vote for anything the public wants? Who cares about the public's interest when corporate America funds, writes and sets the legislative agenda. Congress doesn't represent the public's best interest. That stopped during the Reagan administration. Until people wake up and start voting out those who don't truly represent them nothing will change.

The more things change, the more they stay the same

Looks like "change" and "hope" were for the campaign bumper stickers only. Nice to see Obama nut up on this one and deliver more of the same. Time for the apologists to chime in.

Question Glenn

Glenn,

Hugh Hewitt's position is that Hamas is a terrorist organization that can't be negotiated with and should be destroyed because of their deep seeded, fanatical hatred of Israel that can never be overcome and will always pose a threat. I wonder if Hewitt would apply that logic internally in the US and demand that Klan members be rounded up and shot since they harbor similar deep seeded, fanatical hatred of a number of identifiable groups (African Americans, Jews, etc.) and pose a physical threat. They openly call for the death of those they oppose and even undermining our government. To your point about marginalizing a group, the Klan has less visible power and, generally on a national basis, a negative stigma. Why couldn't that happen to Hamas should Israel begin to make concessions and look for peace. If Hamas needs to be eradicated why not the Klan? What is the difference?

Original article: The better team?

"Better Team" is just part of our fixation

with having to label the team that wins any championship "better" than the loser. We want our winners to be the best - not some fluke, not winning because of poor officiating, or riding a "hot streak", or because they were lucky. Were the Giants really better than the Patriots last season? Winning a championship doesn't inherently make you the better team but the sports pundits have to cart that phrase out so we can all feel good that only the best win. Winners win because they are better than the losers. Did the Phillies get lucky that Moyer didn't get lit up like in his previous outings or was Moyer really that much better of a pitcher? The "best" team doesn't always win - the world is not black and white. The sports pundits need to get over it and call it like the rest of the fans actually see it.

Pay for Performance

As an employee that's all I hear my annual "merit" increase is based upon. Has my job performance been as such a level as to warrant an increase in my base pay. Seems like a few more groups, like mortage brokers and corporate CEOs should also have their pay based upon actual performance results too.

Dump the untrustable tramp

If she cheated on a boyfriend with you what makes you think you're so special she wouldn't do the same to you? The fact you read her journal means you don't trust her and that feeling will only grow until you catch her cheating (which will happen in about 2 months while she's in Mexico). Don't put off the inevitable. Move on. You'll both be better off.

Let's not forget his middle name is Hussein

Nice to see the McCain followers use Obama's full name when making introductions at rallies so we can all hear how foreign and mysterious it sounds. If only they had their Jimmy The Greek or Howard Cosell moment. But should we be surprised with Karl Rover lurking in the background? With only 1 month to go the Right must unleash the hysteria and fear among their god fearing flock. Maybe we can have a terrorist threat alert on November 4th... oh wait, we've been at threat level orange for the past 3 years.

Cubs were outplayed

4 errors by your infield in game 2? That won't win you postseason games (let alone a regular season game). Dempster fell apart in game 1 and couldn't find the plate. Poor pitching, poor fielding and minor league hitting led to this sweep.

Now, how sweet would it be to see Manny face his former team in the world series and light them up? Although Scott Boras is the anti-christ.

How dare you legitimize the AL West!

Peter Gammons and ESPN's Baseball Tonight are quickly putting together an AL East montage reminding us that no other baseball division matters to America as much as the AL East. Vlad who? That Francisco saves guy is okay but doesn't compare to Papplebon. Besides, Los Angeles Angels of Aneheim is too confusing - you can't even find that on a map. Everyone knows where Boston is. Never heard of a Aneheim tea party you know. I must now return to my regular YES network programming.
