Any of our three can beat McCain

or any other of the sorry chuckleheads on display tonight in Boca Raton. Only Edwards could make clear the *human* stakes of the contest. Remember that anecdote he told during the debate in Myrtle Beach about the mother in Missouri who had to choose between heating her home or paying her rent, and thus had to send her kids to bed dressed in winter gear under heaps of blankets. Neither Hillary or Obama have that empathic touch, though they try to simulate it. With Edwards it is real. The Repugs, for their part, could care less about such people.

The Media Hate and Fear Edwards

There's nothing like an attack on corporate power to galvanize the mainstream media against you. They say he's "angry," uses "class war" rhetoric, because he threatens their power. Hillary and Obama don't.

Oh my God, a negative (almost) Obama story

Have the godhead suddenly lost his luster for you, Mr. Grieve?

If you don't think Florida

is more important in the general election than South Carolina, you're a moron. No matter how well Obama does tonight, he could never carry the state in the general, nor could any Democrat. If Hillary wins Florida with a Dem turnout bigger than the Repugs, even when the delegates don't count, that is called NEWS.

Get over yourself!

Death threats for your movie reviews! You WISH you were so important! If your reviews appeared on newsprint, they'd be lining my canary's cage.

Democratic idiocy

What difference does it make if Obama wins SC? He can't carry the state in the general election, and neither could Hillary. Only Edwards would have a chance, but the media has buried him.

Of course it's under-handed

Big freaking deal! This is called POLITICS! They're not running for dog-catcher of Mayberry, for Christ's sakes. Obama's people better toughen up and get a little shrewder or they're in serious trouble.

Less than 100,000 voted in FLA Dem primary in '04

so 400,000+ is VERY big news especially given that the party has frozen the delegates.

Obama's campaign and its supporters

are a bunch of whiny-ass titty babies. They just can't take a punch, which doesn't bode well for the general election if he's the nominee. Believe me, John McCain could care less if you think he's being mean to poor Barack.

Saturday, January 26, 2008 01:08 PM

Boo-Hoo! My Opponent is Being Mean to Me!

Obama *is* a whiner, and Clinton is too. He's happy to play the race car if it depicts him as a victim and wins him African-American votes, just as Clinton plays the gender card when she wants female votes. Their back-and-forth has been pathetic. Vote for an adult--John Edwards!

Ethics! That's a good one! LMAO! Politics is about ethics! I LOVE it! Tell us another one! You're quite the jokester.

hey, Mr. Grieve

How far up Obama's ass do you think you can get your tongue?

What rules?

Do you think the Republicans will play by your so-called rules? Obama better wise up and toughen up soon.

@jfriesne

Trying to get away from rough-and-tumble politics is a sure-fire strategy for losing. Happily, I suspect Obama and his campaign are considerably more cynical than his naive followers. He is, after all, a slick Chicago pol, part of one of the most down-and-dirty city machines in existence. His Rezco connections show he knows how to play the system. And good for him! He's better be as slimy as I imagine he is if he hopes to beat Clinton and/or the Repugs. If not, it's Bambi vs. Godzilla!

Saturday, January 26, 2008 06:38 PM

Obama seemed so ANGRY

in his speech--enraged even. Not the best tone to take, huh?

Saturday, January 26, 2008 06:46 PM

Actually, KcM

If a black Democrat couldn't win South Carolina, it would have been a sad state of affairs, no? A black man won in a state where better than 50% of primary voters are black. Surprised?

Saturday, January 26, 2008 06:56 PM

Edwards almost pulled out second place

I hope he stays in and fights for delegates. He deserves better than to be sidelined by the two worst primary candidates the Democrats have put forward in decades. We don't need another corporate Republican-lite Democrat, we need a fighter for Progressive values!

Saturday, January 26, 2008 07:06 PM

What the media wants

They adore Obama because he is vacuous and telegenic and they want the head-to-head match-up with Clinton because it gives them juicy story-lines. They hate and fear Edwards because he lambastes their corporate patrons and talks about poverty and other gross subjects. It will be interesting to see if they give Edwards *any* coverage leading up to Super Tuesday. He really is the candidate of progressive change, not pretty slogans.

Saturday, January 26, 2008 07:08 PM

@Muze01

I'd prefer Edwards, but it's a canard that Hillary can't beat McCain. Look at the poll match-ups. Any Democrat can beat any Republican, and will. The question is which Democrat will really stand up, as President, for progressive values.

Just 9 More Days

Until this flash-in-the-pan is sent packing back to Chicago, his tail between his legs. I can hardly wait.

Sunday, January 27, 2008 11:15 AM

Isn't Obama the black candidate?

Now, I'm confused. I thought he was black. I think the African-American voters in South Carolina thought he was too. They definitely thought Jesse Jackson was black. So I'm not sure I grasp what your problem is.

Sunday, January 27, 2008 11:16 AM

@Stellea

Very well said! All these white folks so butt-puckering anxious that Obama not be seen as black--heaven forbid! It would be hilarious if it weren't sad and insulting.

Sunday, January 27, 2008 11:27 AM

@Propagandee

Don't believe the Republican propaganda about who they want to run against. That's no way to pick a nominee. If i were John McCain, I'd be salivating at the chance to take on Obama--a neophyte with a glass jaw, influence-peddling skeletons in his closet from his Chicago machine days, etc. But who cares what the Repugs want? Dems should pick their own candidate for their own reasons.

Sunday, January 27, 2008 11:37 AM

@Bearpaw1

Now, that just sounds paranoid. I think you're grasping at straws here. Do you think Clinton would bristle if she were called "the woman candidate"? Obama should be proud to be the black candidate. If he isn't, and his supporters aren't, that's very distressing.

Sunday, January 27, 2008 11:41 AM

Think about how odd this debate makes Obama supporters seem

They're proud of the fact that a black man has a realistic shot at the presidency. So his race does matter. But if you call him the black candidate, they get furious. Because his race doesn't matter.
