  • I told you guys you need to cover Northern Mexico

    Earth to Salon writers:

I realize you've more or less edited the War on Drugs out of your coverage of the world, but HELLO -- THERE IS A WAR IN NORTHERN MEXICO.

The Drug War is turning to an actual shooting war. The Mexican government has sent in the army because the drug cartels succeeded in thoroughly corrupting and intimidating the police.

Now the drug cartels are buying rocket launchers and helicopters, and the Bush administration is preparing to help the Mexican army in a big way.

Soldiers in the Mexican Army are already accused of resorting to rape and torture of civilians in their battle against the cartels.

Perfect time for Blackwater to show up, eh?

I'll bet that Blackwater is preparing to go into Mexico to help the Mexican army fight the cartels.

Mexico is going to become the next Iraq.

But the War on Drugs barely exists in Salon coverage, so I can see how you believe this is all really about immigration.

It's not about immigration. There's a freaking war taking shape on our Mexican border!!!

Oh well, let's not think about that any more. After all, it might divide the Democrats. That would be inexecusable.

So let's just pretend it's not happening, and maybe the problem will clear itself up and we won't have to think about it at all in 2008.

  • Maybe she's a nerd like me?

I didn't understand why I dress and act the way I do until I read "The Complete Guide to Asperger's Syndrome." That was very enlightening for me personally.

Women with Asperger's don't enjoy wearing highly constructed feminine clothes. We don't like going to great pains to construct ourselves to be socially appropriate in the eyes of other people. We don't feel a need to be easily stuffable into the little social boxes that are constructed and utilized by more socially-oriented people.

I don't KNOW whether the LW has Asperger's. And I'm not saying she has it.

But if she IS like me, if she HAS been touched by the Asperger's Fairy, then her style preference is typical and understandable and has nothing whatsoever to do with her sexual preference.

  • Here's the exciting story that Salon is reluctant to cover for some reason I don't fully understand

MEXICO CITY -- The White House announced Monday a $1.4-billion military and security package to assist Mexico and several Central American countries in their fight against drug-trafficking groups threatening the region's democracies.

It goes on to say that more than 3,000 people have been killed in this war since January, 2006.

This is obviously why Blackwater is heading to Mexico.

It's because the War on Drugs is finally blossoming into a real actual war.

The problem is, I don't see any signs of any timetables or benchmarks on our involvement in this war.

So we have another failing and unaccountable war on our hands, only this time it's smacked up against our very own border.

  • See here's the key

    From the LA Times article:

Indeed, the proposal calls for the largest aid package to Latin America since Plan Colombia. But Mexican officials stress that, unlike that plan, this one will involve no U.S. military personnel on the recipient's soil.

"This is not a Plan Colombia," Espinosa said in a recent interview with The Times. "There has been agreement with the Americans in a framework of cooperation with Mexico that does not include military troops."

This must be why they need Blackwater.

Formal charges of rape and torture of civilians have already been filed against Mexican soldiers in this war. So Blackwater will fit right in.

  • This is an odious and despicable era we live in

[Read the article: What is James Inhofe trying to keep secret?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

It's odious and despicable to dumb society down by blocking access to science for the sake of politics.

By the way -- a big scientific review by the Institute of Medicine just concluded that not a single one of the FDA-approved treatments for PTSD actually works.

There is a lot of science being done now that points to an effective treatment for PTSD that Vietnam veterans have sworn by and the VA knows they've sworn by for years.

Think you'll ever see it mentioned here? Ha ha ha.

  • Well we can be thankful for one thing

At least they're not comparing her mouth to a goose's anus. They haven't fully dehumanized her. They're still treating her like she's a human being at least.

  • The Democrats are going to be shocked when they take office in 2008

There's a war in Mexico?!?!? We've been funding a war in Mexico?!?!

NO, there can't be a war in Mexico. If that was true, we would have read about it in Salon.

  • I so agree

They're just going way too far.

Why DO people take good ideas way too far?

  • Is someone using common sense in America? Good for Hillary

[Read the article: One of these things is not like the other]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Way to go, Hillary. And the corollary is that not even all Taliban supporters are pursuing the same objective. Some of them believe in Al Qaeda. Others are just Pushtuns taking sides in some local tribal conflict.

Afghanistan is a really complicated country and our policy needs to pay heed to all of the complications. Ethnic and tribal complications have a long history of thwarting reforms in that country. I hope we don't end up on the list of failed reformers.

  • I eat organic because I have an aversion to dead soil

    [Read the article: Affordable organic]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I don't like the idea of eating food that was grown in soil where every last living organism was annihilated prior to planting.

I don't care how people nitpick the safety issues. I don't like food that was grown in dead soil.

Agricultural land is part of the ecosystem too.

  • So much for Mr. Relentlessly Tough On Crime

[Read the article: A very familiar story about Rudy]

He made sure the potheads spent at least a night in jail when he was mayor. I guess he has zero tolerance for some crimes but not for others.

So where is Nancy Grace when we need her? I'd love to see her do a number on Giuliani. If only.
