  • Hans Reiser - Woman Killer

[Read the article: My interview with murderer Hans Reiser]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I am grateful that the author, Stephen Elliot, shared his experiences by writing this article. I found the article quite interesting.

I have a couple of comments. First, that the murderer, Hans Reiser, may be a self anointed “genius”, but his educational background and work experience belies such a pronouncement. The file system that he supposedly “invented”, in my opinion, uses parts of other subsystems and basic computer science theory to cobble together a differentiated system; perhaps clever in some ways, but lacking maturity in others. It should also be noted that typically “geniuses” in the computer science field are monetarily recompensed in accordance with their genius. Hans Reiser was poorly recompensed.

Lastly, what I found most interesting was the audacity of Hans Reiser suggesting that a Cherry Tree be planted at the grave site of his self-murdered and self-buried wife. The best reason I could come up for this was that he wanted to play a personal joke on his ex-wife and all those who cared for her. The following are some of the lyrics from the song, “Black Horse And The Cherry Tree”.

and my heart had a problem, in the early hours,

so it stopped it dead for a beat or two.

but i cut some cord, and i shouldn't have done that,

and it won't forgive me after all these years

so i sent her to a place in the middle of nowhere

with a big black horse and a cherry tree.

now it won't come back , cause it's oh so happy

and now i've got a hole for the world to see

but it said no, no, no,no-no-no

i said no, no, you're not the one for me

    no, no, no,no-no-no

said no, no, you're not the one for me

big black horse and a cherry tree

i can't quite get there cause they've all forsken me

  • Worth a try?

If the following has already been attempted, I would like to know the results.

An avenue of legal maneuvering would be for the plaintiff lawyers to request Top-Secret clearance from the appropriate governmental agency. I am assuming that one or more of the lawyers can pass such scrutinization. The judge can also request such clearance. The plaintiff lawyers can argue that such a clearance is mandatory if they are to represent their client to the best of their ability. Any restriction of this right would be counter to the legacy of U.S.A. jurisprudence. There are tens of thousands of civilians who possess Top-Secret clearance, including many who are not employees of the U.S.A. government.

If nothing else, such a request would be interesting, given that there is no clear set precedent already in place.

  • FearOdiumXenophobia - Fox for short

[Read the article: Beating up on women never gets old for Fox]

I am not a big fan of Buffy, but my two daughters are. If Buffy and other strong female characters are leading today’s young women away from established churches, I’ll have to pick up the next three seasons of the show for them. Not that I have anything against male dominated hypocritical money changing and little boy loving organizations.

As for the brain-addled Fox “News” organization, I think they fit in well with the aforementioned churches. Praise God and down with the knickers!

  • Another Point to Ponder

[Read the article: Where is the outrage?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

There is something that is being missed in this conversation about the Wall Street Bailout. The most disconcerting part of this episode is the line of argument that the Bailout has to take place immediately.

Let’s put the mass hysteria aside for a while. If the Wall Street problem is as big and widespread as is being claimed, then there needs to be a careful analysis of the related causes and possible solutions to this problem. Why can this not be done? Well because the Bush administration is leaving in a couple of months, and this will include the departure of the Treasury Secretary. The Bush people are intent on paying out dividends to their supporters before the company is closed. Doing so, the Bush people will be handsomely rewarded in the coming years when another Bushee decides to “go political”.

Also, as been known for many years, the Bush administration has changed the rules of “accounting” and “statistical analysis” in many federal agencies. After Bush leaves office, the incoming administration is going to become aware of these shady practices. At that point, if the new administration is just a little bit honest, the books will be adjusted to represent a more realistic accounting. When that is done, it will be clear how much wealth was stolen, at which point there could never be a Wall Street Bailout.

  • Tom and New Markets

[Read the article: Thomas Friedman wants a revolution]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I think I understand why Thomas Freidman supported the Iraq invasion, but I never agreed with him. He was thinking in the perspective of the persecuted man and woman on the ground and seeing how they would benefit from a release from fear. But his vision was a little short sighted. You have to read his earlier books and editorials about the Mideast to understand this part of him better. His intentions were good.

Anyway, his proposals for a green revolution are sound in my opinion. There is more untapped wealth in green energy creation than in any other market. For example, think of putting solar panels on 100 million acres of desert in Australia. Think of what would happen if Australia could transport this energy to other continents. Not only would the solar energy produce wealth, but consider the combined political, business, manufacturing, media, and international cooperation that would be expended on such an effort; a huge market that does not exist at this time. And that is what creating wealth is about, creating new markets.

Lastly, I agree with TF that people of substance need to create this market. However, I would bypass the idea of any of those people coming from a political organization. They should come from the current marketplace. Years ago the politicos were more inclined to led the wealthy. But nowadays, the wealthy are more inclined to lead the politicos.
