Appeasement Bush Style
[Read the article: We are all appeasers now]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]As has been mentioned before, whenever the Bush White House demonizes the meaning of a term, in this case – appeasement, it is because they are the embodiment of that term. They are simply making a strong effort to make sure that the term is not used to describe themselves. “Strike First” is their motto.
Who have been the most blatant of appeasers in the last 7 years? The Bush administration paid the war lords in Afghanistan to become allies during the invasion of that country. Now, many of these appeased war lords have reverted to being enemy war lords. The Bush administration practiced appeasement when allowing the majority of Afghanistan to reconstitute the heroin trade in that country after it was abolished by the previous government. This appeasement was engineered to garner the war lord’s favor, which has predictably led to many of today’s problems in that country.
The number of Bush administration appeasement actions in Iraq is in the thousands, actions that have garnered the expected results. The most overriding strategy for success in Iraq has been appeasement. Of course this “success” will be short lived, but appeasement most always is. The Bush administration’s only action that has not been an appeasement is their continued support of the Scarecrow’s lament from the Wizard of Oz, “If I only had a brain!”

Clint and Spike
[Read the article: Clint vs. Spike: WWII racial grudge match!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I have to agree with Clint on this one. Films are vision statements. Having someone not affiliated with a film interject their vision as the appropriate vision for a film is a show of bad manners.
Clint’s films display a more mature structure than Spike’s films. Spike has seemed to become less of a film maker as he has aged; the opposite can be said of Clint.
Spike seems to have fallen into the problem of placing statements in his films rather than the film becoming the statement. He is falling out of the grace he once surely had.

Ex-NBA Fan
[Read the article: Lakers beat Celtics: Was the fix in again?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]No longer being a fan of the NBA, and its meaningless “travelling” exhibition, I will list the comment that should put fear into the hearts (if there is such a thing) of NBA executives. Who cares?

To Jesse c/o GK
[Read the article: What Barack Obama can learn from Jesse Ventura]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I am speaking as someone who has experienced the Jesse Ventura years on the Minnesota airwaves and in the Minnesota government.
GK wrote a poignant line referring to Jesse V., “the thin skin, the towering ego, the 92 percent closed mind”. Unfortunately these traits were abundantly displayed during his four years in office. They overtook the substance of his administration, and almost assuredly would have prevented him from winning a second term in office.
If Jesse has overcome these inclinations, I would gladly support him in a run for Senator from Minnesota. If not, he may be able to serve his purposes best as a governmental outsider.
Jesse, you must realize that “attacks” against you while you were in office were not personal (for the “attackers” did not know you), but rather part of the political game. You were baited and fell for the bait. You may have a chance to win a Senatorial seat, but only by first acknowledging these negative actions of the past and relegating them to the past. You must have the same self confidence in your cognitive abilities as you have in your physical abilities.
Perhaps the Baja retreat has sorted things out. You and I know that time is running out for us on this planet, so how can we best use what time is left? Should time be spent serving others or should it be spent serving ourselves? I think it is time to straighten a few things out; not everything, but a better place can be left behind for our children. Let me know what you think.

Pawlenty of Nothing
[Read the article: Losing the mullet, angling for veep]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Having experienced Tim Pawlenty’s governorship first hand, he can best be described as suckling up to a single ideology, “No new taxes.” He lives by that mantra so that he can be viewed in conservative circles as a true believer. This dogmatic approach will then bring him a political appointment on the national scene, or so he thinks. He is an identical twin to the Republican senator from Minnesota, Norm Coleman. Both posture well with no foundation, both are typical Republican office holders from the northern liberal state (also see U.S. Representative Michele “I want to be Anne Coulter” Bachman).
McCain grabbing Pawlenty as his VP would be a short sighted, brain dead decision. So I guess we can assume that Pawlenty is in the running, and running near the front.
