My guess is because...

... women let men do all the hard work in life. Women suck us dry of all of our vitality and strength like parasites and then live on our savings years after they've buried us.

Just fuckin' with ya! heheheheheh!

Wow. Kate Harding is a total bitch!

Of course, she's probably already "reclaimed" that word for "womyn" and thinks it's a good thing. It's not. While her point may be somewhat valid, her nasty, juvenile tone and obvious hypocrisy on this issue - how often has she written with great sympathy about idealized and commoditized standards of beauty and their negative impact on women?

What a bitch.

I'll do ya one better

Not only do I hate fans, I hate sports and athletes, too... total waste of time and energy.

Gymnasts Aren't Athletes

Runners, swimmers, hockey players, basketball players, etc. - those are athletes.

Gymnasts are circus freaks.

The Jennifer Sey lady needs to stop fooling herself.

Why Does Everyone Keep Buying Into Sey's Delusion?

Gymnastics isn't really a sport. It's just a scored exhibition, kind of like a dog show or a beauty pageant.

Gymnasts are no more "Athletes" than acrobats or other circus performers.

Judging people on their "form" in a "routine" isn't a true sport and it's practitioners are mere performers, not athletes.

au contraire, slackey dackey

Looks like I'm not the only one who thinks gymnastics aren't a legitimate sport.

Face it, it's just an entertainment exhibition, like circus acrobatics or - as someone else pointed out - ballet. They all require a certain level of physical skill and conditioning, but they aren't true sports, now, are they?

If Jennifer Sey is so "elite"...

... how come she doesn't have any Olympic gold medals and nobody has ever heard of her till now?

Nice try, Jennifer, but you're just another bitter also-ran taking out your failure on others.

Call me when you win an Olympic gold medal, you whiney loser! LOL

Fair Point, Amerigo

But is it really fair for Jennifer Sey to look down on others when she never reached the pinnacle of her so-called "sport"? After all, by her bitter logic, Olympic athletes have every right to look down on her with the same kind of scorn that she reserves for high school gymnasts.

If she were truly honest with herself she would admit that she was a sub-elite, also-ran who never made it to the big show. What right does she have to dump on the enthusiasm of others?

Daniela Mercury? Seriously?

Leave it to Camille Paglia to zero in on one of the whitest, lamest and tamest performers in all of Bahia. Considering that Bahia has produced some of Brazilian pop music's enduring greats, Mercury was never much more than a jumped up pop tart who got very lucky with a string of hits in the early '90s. Mercury's heyday is almost 20 years in the past and she's been creatively foundering for over a decade - kind of like Paglia herself. God it's funny when Paglia tries to get in on MPB trends that are long past their sell-by dates.

stackey-dackey

My sister got a college math scholarship for her performance on my high school math team - does that make math a sport?

I'm not saying there isn't a certain amount of physical training and skill involved in gymnastics, but it's more of a performance than a sport.

Running a race or playing a game is sports. Doing a routine that is scored by judges is entertainment, no matter how you try to dress it up with the trappings of sports.

Gymastics isn't a real sport and Sey was never a real athlete.

Sorry, but learning a bunch of "routines" that are scored by judges is no different than a beauty pageant or the Gong Show. Sure it requires physical skill and grace, but so does ballet and circus acrobatics. But that doesn't make circus acrobats and ballerinas competative athletes. Sorry Jen, but you were never a real athlete and your "sport" is just a bunch of BS. Call me when you learn to play soccer or field hockey.

@BrunoRS

Just curious - did Brazilians dislike Clinton? If so, why?

Also, you're soooo right about carnival in Salvador. Also, is Daude still popular? I saw her perform a few years ago with Carlihnos Brown and she was amazing.

I suspect that the only reason that Daniela Mercury even appeared on Paglia's radar screen is that she sent Pagila a bunch of CDs and flattered the old bag's ego.

McCain said the EXACT SAME THING

McCain said "In the 21st century, nations do not invade other nations."

Why hasn't the media reamed him a new one for this insanely hypocritical gaffe?

Well said... I was no fan of metal back in the day (I was more of a Replacements fan, myself) but to compare today's emo-mopes to 80s hair metal bands in terms of decadence and rockstar mayhem is just silly. Pete Doherty ain't no Tommy Lee... hell, he's not even Richie Sambora.

PUMA = Menopausal Nutcases

It's pretty obvious to most casual bystanders that the one thing the most vocal PUMAettes have in common is their age. They're all right in the strike zone for total menopausal freakouts. Their irrational, hysterical, self-defeating behavior is typical of menopausal women.

The question is, are we going to let these menopausal nutcases hold our electoral process hostage with their silly tantrums? Or are we going to let reason and rationality rule the day?

What PUMA really stands for

Pathetic

Useless

Menopausal

Assholes

PUMAettes Need To Stop Blaming The Media

It wasn't the media who took down Hillary - it was Hillary's own inept campaign.

Nobody in the media told Hillary to lie about coming under fire at the airport in Bosnia.

Sorry, PUMAettes, but that's when Hillary lost my vote and it had nothing to do with "the media".
