Also...

... I'm still not sure how to respond to the "are you white" question, even after all these years. I can pass for "white," sure... but I've got an African grandmother on my father's side... I don't really qualify as "bi-racial" (which seems to be the most accepted and popular term), and I usually self-identify as "white" because I didn't grow up in African-American culture... but it's not the entire truth and I still don't know how to answer that one... I guess in the technical parlance of American racism, I would be an "Octaroon"? But I don't deny that I "pass" for white and claim "white" privelege in this country...

Heh

I think the real problem that men have is more with your assumptions and stereotyping of us and our supposed "privleges" - you make it sound like if you're born a "white" male in America you never have to work for anything and everything you could possibly want is handed to you. But guess what, the playing field isn't level for us, either. And it cracks us up that you seem to think so. Sorry, but that's just fucking laughable - and that's what most guys resent, I think. Look, we've battled before and you've made ALOT of assumptions about me that just aren't true - and I think that's indicative of a certain mindset among some feminists (not ALL, just some). You come loaded for bear and just love to dump on men that you perceive as "stupid," "dumb," "privleged," (all words you've used against me, BTW) because - be honest - it gives you a kick and satisfies some kind of itch, too... As for me, why do I enjoy winding up "feminazis" (Your word, not mine)? I dunno... I guess because it's cheap, easy and I haven't been to the movies in almost a year...

Not sure about American dads...

... But my father sure didn't have it easy. My folks left Mozambique in '71 and never looked back - they left EVERYTHING behind and started over. The only things that he ever had on your litany of fatherly privelege was a Union Job and a loving wife... who also had a Union job... LOL

So, um, where's the actual sympathy?

Just curious... do you actually HAVE any sympathy for this guy, or are you just using him to make a point about percieved stereotypes of eating disorders?

Monday, April 21, 2008 01:48 PM

@juliebird

Um, pointing out that the guy has a mental illness isn't exactly the same thing as "sympathy" ...

Monday, April 21, 2008 01:58 PM

@Panask

So where was the actual sympathy? Please, show me one line of actual sympathy here. It just comes off as snide, snotty and shameful to me.

Tuesday, April 22, 2008 07:29 AM

Not Really

My mom never dissappointed me or lost my respect the way Hillary did... I actually supported her for a minute after Edwards dropped out, but her behavior - reinforced by her recent lies over Bosnia - made me an Obama supporter right quick. I'll still vote for her over McCain if it comes to it, but I would rather have Obama. But then agaian, I would vote for my mom over either of them - if only she hadn't been born abroad... no pun intended.

Also...

My mom has actually seen a real war up close... she would never make up self-aggrandizing lies about being "under fire" and she DEFINITELY would not have voted to authorize one (and if she did, she would be mature enough to admit her mistake). Seriously, it's a shame she wasn't born in America. She would make a good Senator, too.

Why Is Kristol Sacrificing American Lives For Israel?

When he never spent a day in the US military OR the IDF? The time is gonna come when Americans get sick and tired of paying through the nose to support the rightwing welfare state known as Israel. Since when was Zionism part of the US Constitution?

Was This Supposed To Be Funny?

It just seemed kinda stupid to me.

Original article: Let's dump "Earth Day"

I prefer arbor day

Because planting trees is never a bad thing, and rightwing a-holes don't get all bent out of shape about it and try to ruin it for everybody.

Great Interview

Interseting stuff. Kudos to Mr. O'Hehir...

Your vicious attack on Major Payne is way out of line, Catherine...

Just kidding... that video was too fucking stupid and offensive for words. Here's an idea - why not anonymously leak it to some wackadoo anti-abortion group? I'm sure that true hillarity would ensue...

If this is the best that the wingnuts can do, get ready for two terms of Obama

This is some seriously stale and tired shit... the wingnuts need some fresh ideas quick, 'cause I've seen better fearmongering on Blue's Clues...

Tina Fey Didn't Write It?

Damn. That already ruins it for me. She's a fucking fantastic writer. Amy Pohler gets on my nerves, but I do love me some Tina Fey (not to mention my man John Hodgeman, who I saw in the trailer on YouTube!). Not like I get to go to movies anymore anyway...

Tina Fey Is Hillarious

Amy Poehler is just annoying. Too slapsticky and goofy for me. Sarah Silverman is funny. Jimmy Kimmel is awful. But Amy Sedaris? She is the greatest of all. And who said women aren't funny? I mean besides Christopher Hitchens, who is basically a drunken idiot who still thinks the Iraq war was a dandy idea....

Original article: Does Madonna still matter?

Meh

Madonna peaked a long, long time ago... Hard Candy is just more of the same. I think the answer to whether she still "matters" is, obviously, no... she's more of a niche dance artist than the cultural belwether she once was. I blame it all on that stupid, fake British accent...

Who Says That 6 Billion People Is A GOOD Thing?

I hate to say it, but there are just waaaay too many people on the planet, and the earth's resources cannot support us indefinitely. A big die off would probably be a good thing in the long run. I know that's a fucked up thing to say, and I struggle with the idea myself, but I really think this is something we have to face up to as a species.

This Sounds Good To Me

"America's Northern states would fit more amicably into a union with Ontario and Nova Scotia than the one with Arizona and Texas."

Can we get a vote on this? I'd love to secede from Jesusland.
