The only intelligent response to Electro Robot's brainswashed rants is the ever-eloquent: "Nigga Please!"
American Capitalism IS collapsing - no matter what the lying cons tell you. Democratic socialism works and its time has come.
Why is that so ridiculous to you? Because you drank the "personal responsibility" kool aid? Why is it that corporations can get bailouts but individuals can't in this country? Why do rightwing apologists always tell us that it's "every man for himself" and that the state and the corporations have no responsibility towards the individual or the community? The pendulum is about to swing the other way - be careful what side you are on.
So, basically, your entire argument is "every man for himself"?
Greed and selfishness are not how great nations are built. Try to look beyond your myopic worldview to understand the concept of the greater good and community.
His legacy is everything that is wrong with America today.
FDR and the New Deal created the modern American middle class and the GOP has been trying to destroy it since the 1930s. Looks like they've finally succeeded and now we're all fucked. This is the only legacy the GOP and their apologists will be remembered for.
Teach your kids how to say "Me Love You Long Time" in Chinese, Arabic and Russian, because in the future globalized economy where America can longer compete, we will be exporting our children as sex workers to Dubai, Shanghai and Moscow. Good thing our kids have Lauren Conrad and Paris Hilton to use as role models.
America has nothing left to offer anyone under 40. Get out while you still can and let idiots like Brightstar and the other Republican apologists suffer through the collapse that their selfishness, shortsightedness and stupidity have brought upon themselves.
Another media elite a-hole who's never spent a day in uniform telling the rest of us where to send our kids to die. Fuck him and fuck the rest of the neocon chickenhawk cocksuckers. They should all be out of jobs for getting Iraq so unbelievably fucking WRONG. Also, he owes us anti-war activists a BIG apology, since WE got the whole thing RIGHT in the first place. Friedman is a total incompetent.
Fuck it. The GOP has destroyed America's future. Let's get in on Europe while the gettin is good.
... what they REALLY mean is "fuck you, America!"
What an utterly predictable doucheweed.
Fuck Louis Bayard. Reagan was a total dickweed - and the Soviet Union would have collapsed with or without him.
Tell him that you find himself sexually repellent because of his enviornmental selfishness. That should do the trick.
That was some pretty stupid shit there, son. The BFV is not a tank, and it was NEVER considered "impregnable". Anna Badkhen got two wrong here. Stop making excuses for bad journalism.
Hip Hop died in the '90s. The last real hip-hop record was the first Wu Tang record. Everything else is just bullshit - including Jay-Z, Biggie Smalls and everything that Nas has done since Illmatic. And anything that's not from New York doesn't count - because it's not hip-hop anyway. It's just rap.
Whatever happened to war correspondents who knew at least a bare minimum of what they were talking about? I mean seiously? This is fucking embarassing. It makes Salon look like a bunch of cluelesss liberal dipshits.
The Bradley has been plagued by massive flaws since it was introduced in the 1980s - NOBODY ever considered it impregnable and alot of people in and outside the DOD have considered it a deathtrap and a boondoggle since it was introduced. Have you never seen 60 minutes Anna? Where does Salon get such incompetent reporters?
You know, I think most educated Americans know the general outline of the history of Europeans in the Americas before the Britsh arrived. We may not know the full details, but we certainly know more than the Happy Days Thanksgiving episode that Bayard seems to think we're more familiar with. You know, this stuff IS taught in schools... I know because my wife teaches it.
My wife gave me "The World That Made New Orleans" by Ned Sublette for my birthday, and I couldn't put it down. Amazing stuff - all about New Orleans before the Americans came with an emphasis on the development of black music during the colonial era. If that description sounds dry, read this bit from the intro:
"On sabbath evening," wrote a visitor to New Orleans in 1819, "the African slaves meet on the green, by the swamp, and rock tile city with their Congo dances."
Most of the United States was quiet on Sunday. In many parts of the rural, mostly Protestant nation, dancing was frowned on. But the mostly French-speaking, mostly Catholic, black-majority port city of New Orleans, proudly unassimilated into the English-speaking country that had annexed it, was rocking.
Jump forward 128 years, to Roy Brown's "Good Rockin' Tonight." If I had to name the first rock 'n' roll record, I would first say that there is no such thing, then I would pick "Good Rockin' Tonight." It was recorded at Cosimo Matassa s rudimentary studio on the edge of New Orleans s French Quarter: a microphone and a disc cutter, in the back room of a record store at Rampart and Dumaine.
Cosimo's place was catty-cornered from the legendary "green by the swamp," known in the old days as Place Congo, or Congo Square. The distance between rocking the city in 1819 and "Good Rockin' Tonight" in 1947 was about a block.
Seriously, this is a great book!

This made my day. You rock, Ruben!
Good point. We are in a "soft" military dictatorship of our own making. Ike was right but it was already too late when he warned us about the military-industrial complex. We're pretty much fucked and addicted to war to solve our problems. Once we turned from being a "trading nation" to being a "raiding nation" it's been all downhill ever since.
