Political office is a cash cow. That is how it works. They have to raise millions for the campaigns and that requires as much time as the job.

If you don't like it, scrap the current political system and the parties and start from scratch with issues and philosophy being the factor rather than money and favors.

Investigating and arresting a politician for this sort of behavior is like shooting fish in a barrel. Politicians are for sale. Votes are for sale. Offices are for sale. Tammany Hall in the 21st century! How can you expect any different?
