Reagan Democrats for McCain
[Read the article: The rubes and the elites]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Every time you so called progressives make snide derogatory comments about hard working low income white people you have nothing in common with and you secretly despise...your true contempt becomes more and more transparent everyday. Just remember why they voted for Ronnie. Deep down inside they despise you too!!!

Hhatchet Job!
[Read the article: The rubes and the elites]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Nice try....but you just don't get it! Obama is a decent man I believe, a gentleman and a scholar who like us all is flawed and human. His rise is a testament to the greatness of our country no doubt. That does not make him irreproachable for his beliefs and actions, nor does it excuse his supporters who hide behind a veil of progressiveness while deriding those considered to be lesser individuals for their own beliefs. Being from a poverty stricken family from Harlan County Kentucky with relatives who worked hard their whole lives, generations of whom sacrificed themselves in various conflicts for their country...only to made fools of by those who claim to have their best interests in mind. Well, I no longer have any misconceptions about how people like you feel about us. Make no mistake...the feeling is mutual...and it has nothing to do with Barack Obama. The truth is...Barack Obama doesn't need your support...he needs all those poor white people you and your friends despise.

Bitter is not the point!
[Read the article: The "bitter" vote]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]The country is just beginning to learn who this annointed savior of democracy is, and although he is a gentleman and a decent man by all accounts, he is a relatively unknown entity. All the more reason to question every statement, every action, and every move he makes. In a world filled with self gratuity and deceit, voters have every reason to be leary of ANY politician who claims to have their best interests in mind. No one can possibly argue that claiming poor white people "cling" to their guns and religion out of bitterness is not condenscending and demeaning. In an era of unparalleled sensitivity and political correctness, arguing otherwise is hypocritical at the very least. A faux pas?...perhaps...a deeper lack of understanding, I am not really sure...but inexcusable nevertheless. As one with deep roots and family traditions in the hills of Appalachia I can only say that embedded in those stereotypical statements is a pevasive prejudice that goes unchallenged by far too many who consider themselves intellectual or progressive. Appalachia is filled with hard working generous people who go to church because they beleive in God, and they have no more fascination with guns than the average urban/suburban dweller. For the most part they are people who understand hard times, much more stoic than most progressives apparently understand. Anyone who hopes to unite this country will have to do better that that!

From Pain comes Gain
[Read the article: McCain's gassy tax relief]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]This looks like pure politics to me...pandering to the consumer at the very least. By all accounts gas is still much cheaper than most Europeans pay, which is why trucks and suv's still sell like hot cakes in the U.S. If you believe in half what the "Peak Oil" theorists say....we could be headed towards 8-10 dollar gas and serious climactic change if we don't change our habits. Giving heroin addicts cheaper drugs doesn't change their habits...and neither will this. If Americans won't voluntarily become more fuel efficient...I say raise fuel taxes like they raised cigarette taxes! You want to be a pig and drive around in a big ass suv just to drive to the grocery store or a soccer game...your gonna pay 300 bucks to fill it up. You want to buy something online instead of your local neighborhood store...your gonna have to pay double for the shipping. You want kiwis from New Zealand...pay up or shut up. Maybe trucking should get some sort of transitional tax credit...but there are too many damn trucks busting up our roads as it is! Cheap fuel like cheap credit will just prolong the change we all know we need to make, and I'm sorry McCain doesn't understand that.

Very Tacky
[Read the article: Flagging America's racial divide]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Now we are going to discuss a new book about a 32 year old image that arguably "defined" us then, and juxtapose those images of race and flag on a current campaign that supposedly has nothing to do about race? This is a little transparent don't you think? I thought throwing around guilt ridden racially inflammatory images was a thing of the past. Where is Willie Horton these days anyways?

Why did it take so long?
[Read the article: What should Obama do about Rev. Jeremiah Wright?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]It's taken this long for a man who wants to "unite" the country to unequivocally denounce a man who's doing his best to damn us all? Maybe the Rev is right...maybe Barack secretly does agree with his spiritual advisor of twenty years.

Spin....is still spin
[Read the article: Wright's theology not "new or radical"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Poor Barack...he was just doing what all the other "I'm just as black as you" suck ups do in Chicago. Well...how's that working for you now Barack?

Whaaaaaat?
[Read the article: Wright's theology not "new or radical"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]@Jack Hughes
"A case can be made that the AIDS epidemic was caused by a hepatitus vaccine trial in NYC using a vaccine contaminated with HIV."
So...you are saying a community run hepatitus vaccine trial aimed at saving lives was really a Government conspiracy to destroy the black community as Wright proclaims???
There is just no hope people...we are all doomed!!!!!
