If Clinton's White House had done this...
[Read the article: What Scott McClellan said, Part 2]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]can you imagine the uproar from the Republicans if the Clinton White House had done this? It would be deafening. And the SCLM would have made it front page, lead story news, and it would remain at the top of the news cycle for weeks. Republicans in Congress, and their talking hand puppets on FOX News, would be screaming for impeachment.
I don't know which makes me more disgusted: 1) the act itself; 2) our lack of surprise at it; or 3) the fact that our news media doesn't seem to find this newsworthy.
But I'm disgusted all the same.

the War on Terror must be over!
[Read the article: Debbie does Washington]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I guess it's time to finally lower the terror alert level to green or blue. Because Congress has time to wring its hands over pornography. (Or, do something with its hands, anyway.)
-
assuming that this is true...
[Read the article: Did Bush advocate bombing Al-Jazeera?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]if this story can be independently confirmed, than this little nugget alone is enough to begin the impeachment process on this sick little boy of a president.
Our nation is being led by a man who wanted to initiate a military strike against a civilian target based in a friendly country a long, long way away from the theater of operations of his debacle of a war. Think about that for a moment.
At least Nixon had the common sense to know he couldn't get away with bombing the Brookings Institution.

the Christians and the Pagans...
[Read the article: "The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I've always thought of the "Chronicles of Narnia" as being almost as Pagan as Christian, what with the positive depictions of fauns and centaurs and the somewhat nature-embracing attitude. Frankly, if J.K. Rowling was visibly Christian, then the christofascists would probably have embraced Harry Potter as Christian allegory, too.
I've never noticed any particular hostility towards religion itself in Salon, just as I have no animosity towards religion myself. Rather, it's the behavior in which some people engage in the name of Christianity that "progressives" and "liberals" scorn. And that's why many of us dread the expected cultural takeover of this movie by the Talibaptists. Kindness, compassion and herosism are not exclusively "Christian" values.

it's only "offensive" because...
[Read the article: Cheesy]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]the only thing I find "offensive" about the commercial is that it gives whoever wrote that lame song another revenue stream. Otherwise, it's probably a better use of the song than the original recording.
-
envy...
[Read the article: Samba baby!]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]man, if only someone would hook me up to a harness like that, I'd be the star of the clubscene.
-
the cowardly liar...
[Read the article: Bugging the White House about Valerie Plame]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]someone needs to publicly ask this little twit, "Mr. President, on the record, do you know who leaked Valerie Plame's identity to Mr. Novak? Yes or no, please."
This man who's got the nerve to call himself our president is the most pathetic little coward who has ever (illegally) occupied our White House.

what's news?
[Read the article: The president, on message]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]My guess is that Blinky the Bubble Boy thinks the top story of the day is whatever his handlers tell him it is. And, seeing as how borderline retarded this man is, it wouldn't surprise me if he has no idea that he signed an order for the NSA to illegally spy on Americans. Most likely, Darth Cheney issues these orders, and has his young ward sign off on everything without telling him what he's signing.
-
imaginary bias
[Read the article: The war on "Munich"]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]That Philip Horowitz would find anti-Israeli bias in Michelle Goldberg's use of the word "verboten" in her column, even accusing her of equating Israel with Nazi Germany! - is laughable. It reminds me of Woody Allen in "Annie Hall," suspecting anti-semitism when he hears the question "D'you eat?" as "Jew Eat?"
The use of "verboten" in this context is just a common expression, Mr. Horowitz. Just as saying that something is "taboo," instead of saying "against social custom," doesn't automatically imply any bias for or against Polynesians.
-
this would be a disaster...
[Read the article: Lawsuit against Bush?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]If a lawsuit on behalf of this bozo were to go forth, I'm positive that it would immediately and thoroughly rally much of the public to Bush's side. If this guy ends up being exonerated via a "fruit of the poisonous tree" ruling, people will be outraged to the point that they'll accept any "law and order" initiatives that these fascists propose.
I hope this case disappears quietly.
-
protecting whistleblowers...
[Read the article: Another federal leak case, but this one isn't like Plame]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Oh, the Bush Regime is all about protecting whistleblowers - whistleblowers loyal to the team, that is. Thus, the stonewalling and obfuscation as to the identity (or identities, as the case may be) of who leaked Valerie Wilson's covert CIA operative status. And expect a full presidential pardon for Scooter and whoever else gets ensnared by Fitz.
But go against the family, buster, and you're screwed with your pants on.
-
not interested, huh?
[Read the article: As Washington quakes, a pundit yawns]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Yeah, Goldberg "wasn't all that interested in such stories when Bill Clinton was president," probably because his mommy was so busy spreading rumors about Bill Clinton abusing his daughter and murdering people. Next to that, corruption probably does seem a bit run of the mill.

is that really the theme song?
[Read the article: L is for Lame]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]holy crap, that is really, really stupid - so stupid in fact, that I thought maybe it was fake. It's real?!?
I only recently got Showtime, and stumbled upon an "L Word" marathon a few nights ago that started from the first episode. I've seen, oh, maybe ten episodes now. (the last one I saw was when Tina was being harassed by the girlfriend of her sperm donor.) I think the show is quite good, if a bit cheesy at times. (Hey, I'm a straight guy, and I'm glad to learn that all lesbians are really, really hot, live in fabulous homes, and that I may be able to get some action by calling myself a "lesbian defined man.")
The short, simple opening music of the first season is very appropriate. but now, having heard this horrendous "theme song," I'm not sure if I'll keep watching. I guess I can always TiVo it and skip ahead...

geography
[Read the article: King Kaufman's Sports Daily]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]hey King: I think Pittsburgh and Cincinnnati are in the AFC North, not the AFC South.
Other than that though, I think I'm with you on all your predictions; maybe it'll be Indy vs. Cincy in the AFC championship, though.
