First Amendment

This is a defining moment for this country - this election might well be the most important in its history. Judging by many of the letters on here(and the hysteria being whipped up in the boonies - a la Joe the Fake Plumber, Tito the Builder, and Tom the Torturer), I don't feel too hopeful that the right choice will prevail - and that's not even counting the screwing with the vote that is surely going to happen.

I cannot believe how fucking stupid some people are. A senile, hate-filled, fake hero and a bird-brained bimbo, versus an accomplished, thoughtful black man - in this society?

As David Sedaris so succinctly put it - "Would you like the chicken, or the platter of shit with bits of glass in it?"

@Readerreader

Your empty and circular arguments, your false equivalence, your occasional faux Rogerian strategy and above all, your complete lack of rational thought - you're Camille Paglia, aren't you?

Ralph Milhous Nader

has been nuts for years.

I hear McCain has offered him an official post in his new administration(if they can rig enough Diebold machines) - Chief Well-Poisoner...

Klytus and GoodCelery

you need to get married. Then maybe you'll stop posting this drivel. It's a forum - not a venue for failed experimental post-modernist ramblings.

Please...

@Poodleplay

Wow - you handle criticism well. Original and rapier-sharp riposte. Are you channeling Mark Twain?

And yes - I do choose what I read. I'm not complaining about their opinions or politics - I agree with them - I'm complaining about their writing - which seems to me to be fair comment.

I've been reading and posting here for eight years - three elections, thick and thin - way longer than you, newbie - and I'll be here when you're long gone.

And I stopped beating my wife years ago.

@Garvey

You really are a delusional, crap-spouting retard, my friend. Is this drivel computer-generated, btw?

Now get back under the bridge, troll - and be prepared for your boy McCain to get his sorry old ass soundly kicked today, my friend.

Nobody's buying your Repugnican bullshit any more - you've been rumbled, my friend - you betcha!(wink).

Buh-bye, my friend!

History

The story about the old African American couple made me cry. They know as well as we do what this means - a new beginning for this country.

Um - @BeagleofDoom - North Carolina

has been officially called - Democrat - first time since 1976.

As a North Carolinian, I'm proud - President, Governor and Senate - all Democrat.

Yes we can!

New Republic

Sorry, but I don't see how Clinton fits into this model - his was a false-start New Republic - very different from what happened from the forties on,(and the eight years following) and just doesn't fit in with this frankly numerological thesis.

Nice try, though.

Scarface

was drivel then, and it's drivel now. Pacino can be brilliant or dreadful - and this was one of his out-of-control dreadful ones.

Judas Milhous Lieberman

If this is a sign of what's to come, we're screwed. This rat should have been unceremoniously punted - all this shows is that the Dems are still willing and able to be kicked around. We will come to regret this, I think.

Out with the old - in with the old!

Judas Lieberman

This is fucking disgusting - change I can believe in? I don't fucking think so. Yes, I'm pissed - God damn them all!

Happy-go-lucky

was absolutely appalling, Stephanie. I love Mike Leigh, but this movie was a travesty. Miss Pollyanna was unbelievable(in the true sense of the word), the script was stilted, the dialogue was completely inauthentic, the story-line, such as it was, was trite and condescending, and I found the heroine to be completely annoying - all in all, it sucked major donkey-balls.

This is the man who made the brilliant "Nuts In May", "Abigail's Party" and "Naked" - it's hard to believe, and I'm truly sorry to see him go in this direction - down, that is.

Oh, Bless 'em!

Daschle withdraws

I'm glad he's gone(he's an obvious douchebag) but I'm more concerned by the fact that, given his track record, Obama picked him in the first place - and that they didn't have the foresight to shake this stuff out BEFORE announcing a nomination...

Plus ca change, plus c'est la meme chose...

Officer

Terrible story, and no surprises there - but I have to tell you - a Staff Sergeant is not an officer - he's an enlisted man.

Wednesday, February 11, 2009 08:12 PM

NCO

is an enlisted man - he's not an officer - it's a sop to the plebs. First real officer rank is Second Lieutenant - ask anyone who's served (and no, I wasn't an officer..)

American Idol

Is just appalling. Salon has hit rock bottom.

Some really thoughtful, helpful responses here(the positive ones)..Good luck....

Douchebag.

After the third paragraph. You and your "sweetie".

God help us - and you.

Trillin's poem

I only have two/three things to say in passing:

She was 13 years old.

Really bad "poem" - Trillin is no Hillaire Belloc.
