I have nightmares about women who won't shut up about their nightmares. Good LORD, everybody has nightmares! What's the big deal? Most of my good dreams, however, involve shapely, young women in theire early-20's.
HEY, is there even a word for women who hate men?
I'm having too much fun yanking everybody's chains. HEY, is there even a word for women who hate men?
Aren't you the guy who commented on U.S. draft laws without knowing anything about them?
And, you are what a GOD walking among us mere mortal men or do you just think you are?
By the way, I'm still waiting for someone to point fo a law that applies only to women.
Has it occured to anyone besides me that Sarah Palin, at least in her rhetoric, is, in a strange way, running AGAINST John McCain. She contiues to use the phrase "good old boy network"---a catch phrase used by most politicians who have nothing concrete to offer. And, yet, is not McCain the THE definitve "good old boy"? Haven't any of her advisors noticed the irony of this? More importantly, haven't any of her supporters?
I was as surprised as you were, but it's about time somebody laid into the old geezer.
I think a large of part of "sacrificing" her career has to do with choosing to raise her kids. Since when is being a BIG STAR the sole measure of an actor's worth? One thing that many people may not know about her is that she leads her own heavy metal (yes, heavy metal) band. I've never heard them, but as a black friend of mine told me, "she says the things in her music (lyrics) that Will doesn't say in his." Just a point of interest, at least to me. Having said that, I too have wondered why she hasn't found the right vehcicle to elevate her above supporting roles. I think she's a very talented actor and one of the most beautiful women on the planet--not just physically--she has a great spirit and loves to laugh. (Ok, I've got a crush on her. So, sue me!)
I'm shocked that the Obama campaign has not seized on a video clip (for use in its own ads) of Sarah Palin being asked by a reporter if she would consider accepting the position of McCain's VP candidate. I've only seen it once, but in it, Palin actually says something like: ".....before I'd consider it, I'd have to have someone explain to me exactly what a Vice-President does." I am absolutely not kidding.
In their sad attempts to ditance themselves from the rotting corpse of the Bush administration, Republicans, especially in state and local elections, are calling themselves "Reagan Republicans." Wasn't Reagan the guy who tried to take this country back to a time (as noted by TIME's Joel Klein) "before America knew it had a race problem?" Is this a good thing? I have lots of relative who would like nothig better. I try to avoid them whenever possible.
I'm sure I'm very provincial, but can someone tell me what MSM means?
I'm not sure Tina Fey is the funniest woman on the planet, but her Palin impersonation was on the money---one of the best in the history of SNL. The main thing I love about Fey and Amy Poler, however, is that they can lampoon women and the excesses of the women's movement in a truly egalitarian way. I think we can all agree that humor has been painfully absent in this area for a long time.
I think this story relates to an earlier Broadsheet article about the pay discepency between high level male and female executives. Could it be that because "feminists" have placed so much emphasis on making huge salaries in the corporate world that they have failed to encourage young women to consider lower-paying (but, possibly far more satisfying and useful) careers in the arts? One of the gaping flaws I see in the Women's Movement is it's unquestioning embrace of capitalism and success by male standards. How can any movement be truly revolutionary if it has the same goals as the establishment it claims to be attempiting to overthrow?
Do you ever have any original opinions or do you just wait for everyone else to weigh in before you crtiique, correct and deconstruct their letters. Has it ever occured to you that always agreeing with the "feminist" point of view could be interpreted as sexist and condescending because you give the impression that women and the women's movement are too intellectually frail to handle unflattering comments? There is a false tone to most of your letters. You seem, above all, to want to be liked by the women columnist here as evidenced by you pathetic attempt to start some kind of cyber relationship with one of the columnist. Of course, I'm sure you're only interested in her mind. You are the worst kind male chauvinist--a fake feminist.
Dear Anne, Yes the Republican-Evangelical cult has used Christianity in the most appalling ways. To this day, I have never once found anything in the New Testament that would, in any way, justify their (war-mongering, despise the poor, screw the handicaped, hatred of gays) agenda. I am not a Christian largely because of the angry God of the Old Testamaent and the exclusive club mentality that most churches thrive on. Having said that, I think you have to be careful about throwing the word HATE around. That just brings you down to their level.
