You suggest that babyboomers either had the choice to sign up or not.
I think it's more complex than that. vietnam had come during the same era of Kennedy shootings, civil unrest,MLK, and Bay of Pigs. We also knew about the Gulf of Tonkin provocation by LBJ and CIA involvement in countries like Vietnam-prior to setting the stage for war.
history repeated itself all over again with Afganistan and Iraq. at least in Gulf War I-we were reacting to an invasion into a an allied country-not the one doing the invading. it makes a HUGE difference.
I don't believe the US has been involved in a "noble war"since WWII. It has all been about selfinterest.the same playbook has been used so much that the pages are worn.
The public knows this-they know when they've been lied to.Once that support is gone-it's time to throw in the towel or risk eroding further declining public trust. it's not fair that a President can come back to the public every 6 months and keep saying "ok this'll be the last time I promise-we'll get it done this time"-especially without setting any kind of benchmarks or deadlines. No one operates in real life without timelines-why should the military? It's a proposterous argument and shows the public this WH was not serious about winning to begin with-just making money for the military complex.
But it's like being a parent and waiting up for your child to get home at night-ya can't sleep until you know they're safe. Same goes for the American psyche-we can't just move forward with our lives or be expected to "go shopping" when we know what is at stake for these men and women.
By knowing it is not a "noble war" it's as though we've sent our child out with a pedophile. We knew it was wrong to begin with and we want to protect them from further harm.We know if we have the right to truth-so should the military-not thier own version or justification of it.
reality: life and the world as they really are. something real and not imagined.(oxford)
It's obvious Cheney has gotten his grubby little neocon controls on the plans for Iraq again (over Conde). What Cheeny does not realize as most of the samer part of America do: that just becasue you WAT something-does not make it so. Let's look at some other realistic failures-Cheney did not want to serve his country, and chose instead, to defer 5 times from the war. This is called a "chickenhawk"-someone who lets others sacrifice thier lives first. Same goes for GW-deferred.Getting a degree from Yale for Cheney-not to be 'cause he partied too much.Starting a business like Harken Energy for GW-not such a good idea.Other businesses started by GW-not such a good idea-when CEO is lazy or mismanages his staff by not being responsible for daily activities.
What I'm getting at here-is of course, to show that these men have made bad decisions before. Duh!you say?
Some people are so stubborn and closedminded they think they own reality. They think they can shape reality-simply by based on want alone. If it does not happen-especially after so many given years and multiple attempts which prove this person or persons wrong-it is then called delusion. Is it a figment of one's imagination or is it a psychological sickness?
We, the public, may have to be forced to make that judgement soon.
Nothing but a GOP Executive Branch legal whore.
until the next Senate elections are held and Joe Lieberman will be irrelevant-just like GW.
He is the most vile, evil, self-serving, opportunists I've ever seen. Oh-forgot panderer and snake.
While I may have to agree with the stories of Sodom and G.-the katrina debacle had more to do with God exposing the hypocrisy, racism, and incompetence than He did to punish the people of New Orleans. Not that they haven't been hit-but it's been because of GW-not Gods' wrath. I am not of the belief that anything in life is accidental. If you look at those who have been riding the Bush coattails-thye are dropping like flies. Ask Liebermans' buddy McCain about that.
I agree with all of your points you have raised. Americans need to face teh Israeli Likud warmongering caucus. People are intelligent enough to see who writes the article by association of a Jewish name to see that there is self-interest being injected into what is supposed to be a "fair" forum of the msm.As long as Israel wants to see boogymen around every turn-ther will be a boogyman around every turn. If Israel and the US are so concerned about its' safety-why isn't GW proposing a missile shield in Israel-instead of Poland and Europe. It's more of the same fearmongering on a worlwide scale. it's the moneymaking schemes of the military complex who have driven war policy since the Coldwar (to ensure thier own job security). Yet by nations building thier own defenses at home-they would not have to fall victime to Liebermans, Gws', and Hagees' war-profiteering propaganda.
Say no more.
I read am interesting quote somewhere yesterday.
Something to the effect "that wars are nothing but blowing up or killing".
Think this is a true statement and sad.
Wars should have a goal-the Iraq war was about deposing Saddam and looking for WMD. Mission accomplished-now get the hell out.
While it is sad that the above statement is so believed in the military and the msm. How many more wars will it take us to lose to realize there has to be planning, diplomacy, humanity, honesty, and dignity as well.
