No I'm not black nor can presume to know what is in the head of anyone else....

But I don't think both of you (and everyone else) understand what it is like for the black community-to try to trust a white individual-only to get knifed in the back.

It's happened over and over-especially in politics-by white pandering to them.

The MLK death, RFK assassination I would imagine, made African Americans wary of politics. It wreaked of "I'll let you vote-just won't let you play" dirty politics.

I don't claim to affiliate myself with any group-what I try to be is a thinking, feeling individual. I try to see- to understand, the "other" side(ie a viewpoint differ. than mine).

Thrasher and I imagine lots of others are sick of this Rovian strategy.

It's the same one that preys on guys (on here) maybe-who think--I have a neighbor 3 doors down that's black ie. "I identify with blacks". I have a black friend in IT support that I work with-while you pat yourself on the back.

Blacks have been victimized and played by our govt.-heard of the "syphilus' project, or how about the sterilization of black women in prison in NC back in the 40s-50s?

How bout blacks getting picked up more often by cops than whites?

I think Thrasher is angry and rightly so-by whites who try to tell him he has no right to have hope.

It sounds to me, like Obamas' race had not been made an issue of by anyone on the left-and Thrasher (I agree per GG) was now making it an issue on the left.

Thrashers right-I believe, in that respect-I would expect it from a right wing blog-but left wing? Or even try to subterfuge it with the "OMG" fake outrage about the GOP in this post is truly disgusting.

What I am saying (maybe what Thrasher is saying) is-I would expect this from the GOP-but not libs.

I tend to agree with him on that. Maybe T's been a victim of police brutality, amybe he's a Katrina victim, maybe none of thee above----but we as DEMS, INDEPENDENTS need to NOT play to the fear cards of Bennett,Malkin...

Whites on here can say that was not GGs intent, Thrasher can say it is----it is only up to GG to say why he chose now to write these pieces and what his intent was.

WT I agree with your comments on empathy for others or differing opinions. Mona, Thrasher brings up the point about GG being gay-becasue he said he is gay too. Perhaps GG is someone Thrasher identified with more, in this respect, than politics---but is, nonetheless letdown by GGs' post. I don't know-but he seemed genuinely hurt about it to me.
