  • Hey, Joe, Whose Side Are You On?

[Read the article: The war Lieberman didn't want]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Gee, I wonder who Joe Lieberman is supporting in the Senate race here in Florida? Bill Nelson, the Democratic incumbent, or.... Katherine Harris, the woman (I use that term advisedly) who stole the vice presidency from him? After all, she votes consistently with Bush and supports the war and criticizes Democrats.

  • The Eyes of Katherine H.

[Read the article: Katherine Harris on the measure of a man]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

I write from Miami, FL in the comfortable assumption that since no letters have been posted on this subject, Katherine Harris has been effectively consigned to the dustbin of history. If she had the remotest chance of winning the Senate race against Bill Nelson, Salon would be filled with missives of righteous, indignant Harris support. Instead, the cupboard is bare, and the Bush-led Republican Party, which owes so much to this woman for pulling off the lie-laden coup of the century in 2000, has not only effectively deserted her but also has done everything it can to convince her to get out of the Senate race so that someone with a snowball's chance can jump in before the filing deadline next month. No bites... Gee, Katherine, I wonder how you feel about that? You should be grateful, actually, that the media ARE (yes, "media" is a plural noun) asking you about your eye makeup instead of how it feels to be left adrift, bereft and humiliated by the very people who you helped put into office with your duplicity. You've suffered so much since then... don't you feel they owe you? Aren't you outraged that they talked you out of running in 2004 to save Florida for George W's ass in the presidential, only to diss you to the max this year by bending over backwards to get somebody, anybody in the race besides you? Is that what you were referring to when you mentioned guys and their "diminutive size"? Perhaps... or maybe it was just a Freudian slip. What your comment says to me is that, down deep (and this is your tragedy, Katherine), you understand that our nation is led by little, little men — men that you helped put there. And since you did that, they have lied us into a war that has killed 2,500 American soldiers and tens of thousands of innocent Iraqis. I hope you can look at yourself in the mirror when you get up in the morning — and I'm not talking about your eye makeup.

  • Talk Me Into It

[Read the article: From Al Gore, a step toward 2008?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Could I be persuaded to support Al Gore in 2008? Ya, you betcha...

  • This is News?

[Read the article: But thanks for writing]

Don't all Republicans think their constituents are assholes?

  • Why are we surprised?

    [Read the article: Lapdogs]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

It would be very interesting to do an analysis of press coverage in the wake of recent national crises, to see how many elites of the "liberal media" then counseled skepticism, vigilance and inquiry.

I would guess that most if not all did not... from Pearl Harbor to the Cuban Missle Crisis... from the Gulf of Tonkin to the fall of Saigon.. from the invasion of Grenada to the invasion of Kuwait. The one exception, I suspect, would be Somalia — because the media so despised Bill Clinton.

Why? Because the so-called "liberal media" has never existed. The only reason Viet Nam was exposed as a lie was because of brave and/or renegade journalists like Peter Arnett and Larry Burrows. As for Watergate, the other great governmental scandal of the 1960s-1970s, Bob Woodward is a shadow of his former self. The rest, including Woodward now, are just inside-the-Beltway scum who pride themselves on how well they kowtow to those in power. To paraphrase a malapropism, if Edward R. Murrow were alive today, he'd be spinning in his grave.

I'm still waiting for the members of the press to call the Bush Administration on its lies. So far, we've only been able to rely on ordinary citizens who are willing to stand up to authority (and subsequently, endure ridicule) by questioning first Bush, and then (today) Rumsfeld. Both questioners accused Bush and Rumsfeld of lying, Both questioners put all journalists to shame.

The media no doubt will say that they will only cover the lies if the Bushies are called on it by other people... Democrats, policy makers, politicians. I want to know why the media never called the Bushies on the lies in the first place. In the absence of courage from our elected officials, the press is our last line of defense. If they had stood up to Bush, 2,300 American soliders might still be alive today.

Journalists: How can you look at yourselves in the mirror these days? Just curious.

  • That unspeakable skinny blonde person

[Read the article: Is this the end for Ann Coulter?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

Why should we be surprised? Jesse Helms virtually threatened the life of a sitting president (I'll let you guess which one), by saying that said president should be careful if he ever visited North Carolina. And nothing was done about that. So, that vicious blonde charlatan threatens Jack Murtha... What are the consequences?

I would suggest that this unspeakable blonde person, whose name I will not write, would probably have a lot to fear from a chance encounter with Jack Murtha... in an alley, a hallway on Capitol Hill, or in the green room of a cable talk show. Stay tuned, America — if you can bear to.

  • Excuse Me?

[Read the article: A strategy for victory? Not so much]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]

WHY don't the media call the Bush Administration on their continued use of the words "strategy for victory"? Isn't Bush the guy who stood on the deck of that aircraft carrier more than three years ago and proclaimed "Mission Accomplished"? How can we be looking FORWARD to VICTORY when our mission has already been accomplished? This is why I like Keith Olbermann... he signs off every one of his newscasts by counting the days (1,000+ now) since victory was declared in Iraq. I sure wish his fellow journalists would follow suit.

  • Is it just me?

...am I the only person in America who is so tired of seeing/hearing/reading religion everywhere I turn that I could puke?
