Ahmadinejad is not Hitler...

To portray Ahmadinejad as another Hitler is giving him way more power that he has. He is not invading countries, slaughtering millions of innocent people. He may like the idea, but he does not have the ability to do it.

What does do is push the buttons of western leaders, and that he does very well. Like Chavez in Venezuela, he is able to play the press and popular opinion to his advantage, and make western leaders look foolish in the process.

Much of what he says is ridiculous, but it is on the front page of newspapers around the world anyway. Just like Bush...

Original article: Beware the Google

When is it torture?

"As Judge Mukasey explained in a letter to committee members, he cannot do so for several reasons: First, he does not know whether certain methods of questioning are in fact used, because the program is classified -- and therefore he is in no position to provide an informed opinion."

He needs to know if U.S. interrogators actually use these techniques because if they do it is obviously NOT torture.

Resale value not a factor

I do not buy a computer, or a car, for its resale value. This sounds like BMW logic to me. The problem with that analogy is that a BMW is a very nice automobile. the Mac is still an unusable piece of crap. No wonder they have higher resale value, after two years they will be just like new. They are not used for anything but running the OS.

If you end up with an unusable pc after two years, you do not know anything about using or maintaining a computer and should probably keep using you Mac in your parent's basement.

Why are all your price comparisons based on year old data? Computer prices change everyday. Not only that, but obviously the only market for used macs is to existing mac users. Pretty small market. But they are used to over paying for stuff.

In todays market:

Entry level pc laptop about $500. Mac $1100

Loaded pc quad core, 4 GB ram 500gb hd dual nVidia 8800 $2500

Comparable Mac $6000

This is not an insignificant difference. Macs are like BMWs in one way, they are both over priced status symbols.

HD-DVD is not dead...

There is one very big player you left out of your analysis:

MICROSOFT!

They are only getting started on the HD-DVD game platform. Do you really think MS is going to abandon the XBOX 360 platform, or that they will jump on the BR bandwagon?

The big problem here is that once again, it is not consumers that get to make this decision, it is the corporations. By only releasing movies on one platform or another, we don't get to decide which is better.

Either universal players or universal discs (THD) are the solution. If these guys don't get their act together this will die before it gets off the ground, kinda like SACD and DVD-Audio.

I love my SACD's and DVD Audio discs but since there were competing formats they are now both dead.

Sony is the main culprit in my opinion. This has been happening with them ever since the VHS Betamax days.

Billions of Apple machines?

"Companies like Apple, Google and Nintendo are going to dominate this consumer-driven arena, and as these devices proliferate by the billions (literally) MS will find itself increasingly marginalized." ?????

Apple has a long way to go before it has numbers in the billions, literally. Won't be on our lifetimes.

There are already over a billion windows machines.

Apple is a tiny, insignifigant fraction of that.

NAFTA

While I do not profess to speak for all Canadians, there are plenty of us who would love to see NAFTA torn up or at least re-negotiated.

Under the current arrangement, we are not permitted to restrict the export of oil to the USA, even if it is for our own use. We are the energy security plan for the US. We are actually the largest supplier of energy to your country.

America also ripped us off for $5B in illegal softwood limber tariffs. We sued under NAFTA and won, but we were told that we should negotiate with you about how much of our money you should have to return.

These trade agreements are much more beneficial to you than they are to your trading partners. If they weren't you would never have entered into them in the first place.

The outsourcing of your jobs is not caused by foreign countries, it is brought about by American companies looking for cheap labour and higher profits.

I only wear lapel flags...

"I only wear lapel flags...

When I fly and go oversees. And then if I'm not in a suit like when I'm hiking or sightseeing, I usually have a flag patch jacket or a flag baseball cap."

I thought that Americans all wore Canadian flags when they travel.

Voluntary Collective Licensing

This already exists in Canada. there is a tariff on blank cd's and mp3 players. The money collected is to be distributed to artists. The problem is while the government has collected the money, they have not given any of it to artists. It is just another revenue stream for the government.

Meanwhile, blank cd's cost $50 for 100 while blank dvd's (no tariff) cost $30 or less for 100.

A better solution would be to include the address of a working musician with every package of blank discs. I will gladly send them the $.

Dishonorable?

If anyone should know about bombing innocent civilians, it would be John McCain.

I am still trying to figure out why someone who was shot down while "bombing innocent civilians" and spent the rest of the war in the Hanoi Hilton is somehow qualified to be commander in chief.

He was not a military leader in Vietnam, he was a pilot. Apparently he was not very good at that either, since he was shot down and captured.

It is too late for these types of personal attacks to change the race. McCain is finished...
