Stop bashing the media, Glenn!
[Read the article: Do national journalists agree with Gary Kamiya?]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]They are doing a superb job covering worthy media stories, as I noted here:

You really shouldn't be so darn cynical!

Ending the debate?
[Read the article: The al-Marri decision]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Glenn states:
Allowing the President unilaterally to declare individuals to be "enemy combatants" with no meaningful review process means, by definition, that the President's power to imprison people for life is unchallengeable and unreviewable. No hyperbole is needed to describe that as a core tyrannical power, one of the defining attributes of dictatorial rule. How does that, by itself, not end the debate over whether this is something that ought to be done?
If you want to "end the debate", ask those Bush supporters how they'd feel if such powers were given Clinton. They couldn't possibly fathom such an atrocity (nor could I for that matter), but they'll give you their mindless, senseless defense of Bush's Executive authority 'till the cows come home.
Pathetic.

A friendly reminder
[Read the article: The ongoing journalistic scandal at the New York Times]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]On who wrote that famous NYTimes piece about Saddam obtaining nukes with Judy Kneepads on September 7th, 2002:

I think you give Gordon too much credit. To me he's far more than a mere gullible reporter who's too intellectually lazy to investigate and verify information from Administration and military sources. No, by his record of continually and incessantly failing to verify, this points more towards intellectual dishonesty and deliberate deceit.
Any freakin' 1st grade child would know and learn not to perform the same habits that got them into trouble, but yet you see this recalcitrant kid defying logic over and over. Hell I've seen idiots over at NewsMax and National Review learn from their past mistakes and avoid them better than Gordon.
Way too much credit, Glenn.

Thanks for responding, Glenn
[Read the article: The ongoing journalistic scandal at the New York Times]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]It seems that you are also stating that there is more than just complicit behavior of the NYTimes editors for allowing Gordon to continue unabated. I tend to agree if that's the case, but it leaves me feeling rather perplexed about our "librul" media flag ship like the NYTimes.
With librul friends like these, who needs enemies?

This is becoming infuriating
[Read the article: A new low of mindlessness for our media]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]All this time I was led to believe by our Faux News pundits and AM Conservative radio boys at how librul our media truly is. All this time I was led to believe at how the Brookings institution was just another uber-lefty Soros wing of the Democratic party. What is the world coming to when I see such a librul institution like our Mainstream Media be hoodwinked by these pro-Bush supporters dressed up as librul clowns?
Terrible. Just terrible. What's next - Joe Lieberman is actually a neocon Bush supporter?

Politico, I mean O’Hanlon's brother in law comes to the defense
[Read the article: A new low of mindlessness for our media]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Oh, this is good. I really think this should be mentioned, Glenn. Via ThinkProgress:
Today, the Politico covers the reaction to the “optimistic” New York Times op-ed by Brookings analysts Michael O’Hanlon and Kenneth Pollack, calling it “a more furious ideological shootout than has been sparked by any recent development on the battleground or action by the Bush administration.” From the article:
“Often Wrong, But Never In Doubt” was the headline on the progressive Think Progress blog of the Center for American Progress Action Fund. The posting, which asserted O’Hanlon and Pollack were “embarking on a public relations tour calling for stay the course,” drew 228 comments. A printout runs 56 pages. Elsewhere, the site accused the two of “shilling.”
O’Hanlon is the brother-in-law of Politico editor-in-chief John F. Harris.

Everyone's got a connection, and they all have each other's back, as it seems.

@ Martin
[Read the article: Attention Democrats: GOP fear-mongering does not work]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]Isn't it possible that the Dems who voted for this
actually believe it's a good idea, not because they live in terror of M.C. Karl?
Sure, and if so then I would want to know exactly what on earth is their logic to give our Executive branch MORE power and have the FISA courts (which used to be the check and balance to Bush's surveillance powers) essentially be a rubber stamp. I would want to know why they have clearly seen that Bush has broken the law by circumventing the FISA courts, has been so inept that he cannot obtain a warrant with a pro-Executive FISA court that giftwraps warrants to Administrations in the past so long as they have a slight amount of evidence to support their wiretap. if any Democrat considers this a "good idea" to give a hapless president who sits at 26% approval and an AG who's lied repeatedly under oath, we are in much bigger trouble than we believe.

@ Anonymous
[Read the article: Attention Democrats: GOP fear-mongering does not work]
[Read more letters about this article: Here]I hope Dems continue to misread 2006 as Glenn clearly is. A switch of a mere 70,000 votes across the nation out of tens of millions cast (less than one-tenth of one percent)would have kept both houses of Congress in Republican hands.
And I hope for your sake that you do not examine a map and outlook on the upcoming elections, because there's far more Republican seats up for grabs versus Dems' seats.
And a "switch of a mere 70,000 votes" may not seem too high for you, but considering WHERE those votes were switched tells a far different story. Your examples of Tester and Webb are terrific - both very Republican strongholds with well-established Republican incumbents (one just so happened to be a darling for the GOP presidential nomination), yet they LOST to two Democrats. Bummer for you.
Plus you seem to also handwave away the fact that NOT ONE Demoocratic seat up for grabs was lost by the Democrats. How often has that occurred, Anonymous? Plus the number of seats in the House given up were rather significant as well by your party. Funny how you seemingly ignore that as well.
That's okay, though. You just keep hoping your lame duck president and GOP continues to obstruct and filibuster that darn Upperdown vote thingy in Congress in hopes to make the Dems. look bad.
