Must have breezed through: "Years later, he became a high-school teacher and then a professor at a Jesuit college, but we never left our immigrant family roots in industrial Endicott. To this day, I have more rapport with campus infrastructure staffers (maintenance, security) than I do with other professors or, for that matter, writers. Don't get me started on the hermetic bourgeois arrogance of American literati!"
Please! This delicious take-off must stop! My sides they are a-splittin'. To, in one breath, castigate others for their class warfare in three acts and then go on to congratulate herself for talking the security personnel on her way through the turnstile, is the sort of succinct parody only Paglia is capable of. Like Andy Dick, one is never quite sure when she is serious or acting. She almost gives it away when she claims to be an independent thinker and goes on to list, verbatim, the reactionary right wing take on 'liberalism' (soft on terror, socialist, Obama is inexperienced and makes 'gaffes', liberals are governed by emotion). The last one, of course, is delightfully juxtaposed to her claim that conservatives have a fair, 'sports-based' approach to political life.
In all seriousness, I one noted to a conservative football coach in South Carolina that he approached football and sports with the analytical mind and view 'America in the world,' rooting as a fan, which, i do think, is exactly the opposite of what it ought be.
You are an idiot. Do you really believe that myth about Pershing? Well, you sure aren't one or all of the following A) A good Academy Student B) an Academy student or C) an actual vet. Were you A, such myths would have been cleared out of that box on the top of your neck.
At the very least you must not be silly enough to believe that any muslim with a gun really believes that about pigs. It is pretty clear you don't 'mix' well as your comprehension of peoples outside your immediate background is about nil.
He must have a chronic condition since he seems aware of what is going on. Rather silly of him to stay on camera and keep up appearances rather than just sitting down, though. Guess the fear of looking foolish on TV is good enough a deterrent to acting wisely.
I really don't get the attitude of the "this is a hate crime, absolutely" people. The fact is that no one has attempted to justify the murder. The clear fact that the bigguns write that either you think it is a hate crime or you are a homophobe/rapist is absurb. Witness bigguns claim that when one hears a story, one identifies with one party, and essentially throws in with one party or another. The claim is absurb and says more about bigguns than anyone else; indeed Guns goes on to say that she (is I recall) 'always defends the underdog' (or some such linfo) exposing a self-glorifying worldview.
I would say though that
- this is arguably a hate crime, but if there was no premeditation, than it was not, and I suspect the judgment on this will, ultimately go along those lines.
-Sexual orientation and sexual identity are important to people. A willful attempt to violate another's sexual identity is a social, if not criminal transgression. IN order to support Angie in this case one must to some degree confirm the accused in his perspective. Chasing someone down the street calling them a 'faggot' or deceiving someone into sex based on a false claim of gender are not entirely differing in the degree, and neither is (necessarily) illegal (depending on the state or municipality.
- It is possible to support the defense's claim that this was not a hate crime without identifying with the alleged killer. I can no more identify with him than I can with some one who pays money for sex, takes sailing lessons or supports the Dallas Cowboys.
- The only thing in the world I might agree with conservatives on is that hates crime as a category, is of questionable standing. It certainly is in this case inasmuch as should the claim of murder fail, so then will the attempt to prosecute this as a hate crime. While possibly useful in cases of vandalism where racial epithets have been used, it amounts to nothing here since the main charge will succeed or fail, and any success of the lesser hate crime charge will just distract. More time has been wasted debating hate crimes in murder cases and there has never been anything to show about it.
- But this MAY have been a hate crime.
Me and my dad make models of clipper ships.
I like clipper ships because they are fast.
Clipper ships sail the ocean.
Clipper ships never sail on rivers or lakes.
Clipper ships have lots of sails and are made out of wood.
I might put all 5 of these things in my "5 things I love avoiding by working at home." Coworkers, the boss... seriously? For real?
and at home I can work in bed or on a couch... no need for slouching.
