Incorrect, I think, on one matter

"The term was and is never used without derision; in fact, it's not a term anyone in that situation actually uses to refer to the parent of their out-of-wedlock child. Though used with a certain amount of humor in the very beginning, "baby mama" is used disdainfully nowadays, when used at all."

I live in Philadelphia... not that that has anything to do with it I think... people not infrequently, use the term 'baby mama' without irony or anything negtive whatsoever. I would say somewhat less nowadays, but nonetheless, it is used without derision in certain circles.

To break it down simply: 'white people' (the collective whitey that mixes little outside of their sphere, not individuals, per se) use 'baby mama' mockingly refering to their perception of ghetto life. But plenty of people use the term without a hint of edge ot it.

Regarding Fox, it pretty clearly was insulting a bit. If this incident were alone, i wouldn't think anything of it. However, in the context of Fox's general rhetoric, not to mention their frequent and willful insertion of racial coding ('Hussein','Osama',' terrorist fist jab' etc.) it clearly was meant with ill intent and should not be overlooked.

Reflections of reality

I certainly hope, for your sake, that you don't suppose the populace herein as reflective of reality. A life lived as upon the posting panels of salon would, indeed, be nasty, brutish and short.

If my completely obnoxious, willfully ignorant sister, who supported Hillary, can vote for Obama, than just about anyone can.

"That said, please explain why Fernando Torres was a "slumping" striker?? He had 24 goals in 33 games with Liverpool last season a..."

Nothing to do with Liverpool or club form. He had something of a sub par tournement with Villa doing much of the heavy lifting up front. There isn't much doubt about that. That said, he made more than up for it and was, without any doubt, the man of the match for me. I was stunned when Aragones took him out, a decision that surely would have been remembered as a massive managerial gaffe had Germany gone on to equalize.

Numbers

Would only need to be HALF right? Because as the Republicans gain seats, the democrats lose one. So with 19, the Republicans, in an otherwise static system, need to win 10...

Just.... jabbering off topic.

Web site sucks

Not because it is offensive, but because it is poorly written ... this guy has the wit and writing style of a 4th grader... AND because most of it seems directly cribbed from the 'Are you a Yuppee'-type books from the mid-eighties.

Hipster irony

I frankly admit, I dunna get this hipster irony thing with bacon apparently so universal (in the salon offices). I myself eat bacon at least twice a week. Really, its not that controversial a food outside of the Salon offices folks.... but tasty everywhere, especially in my orifices.

yuck

I love the guardian, but this quote could well have come form the heady, book-version of Love Actually. Or how about an off the cuff jabber from Jane Fonda in a 1978 Elle interview? Or how about a couple of stoned teens in the woods? that sounds about right.

loomis....

Do you think there is really anyone here reading this who is not an advocate of the base-layer 'feminism' described here. Are there really a whole lot of salon readers who have any problem with households with two working parents? For that matter, is there a percentage of such people who are National Review subscribers who have serious doubts regarding this? I'll tell you : not many. This is an Alan Alda, 1980 quotation... perhaps the quote of the day when 'Alice Doesn't Live Here Anymore' was released.

Hell are you people on about

There is nothing 'ironic' or kitschy about bacon. I really am at a loss to even attempt to explain this hipster/bacon/irony thing you guys have going. It's facking breakfast or salad bar food. This is the most annoying object-irony-totemism since 7th grade when a few frie... associates ... of mine began touting the Spork as a utensil of choice and wore the sporks from taco Bell around their necks.

Perspective my friend

You mention smoking bans alongside those other "triumph's"?? I am pretty fine with the recent smoking ban in my city, but these bans are nothing more than an exemplification of modern america's Ultimate Narcissism and inability to live in close quarters with their neighbors.

Irrelevant

I suppose the non-binding is one thing, but if the congress asserts he can, then he can. After all, Alexander Hamilton, born elsewhere (barbados i think) was exempted by ceongressional decree.
