Not Made Here

One of the facts that perhaps wasn't discussed is that the vast majority of the Internet poker sites are British, and so there was no lobby ready to defend the industry against the actions of congress.

There are also rumours that powerful interests in the gambling industry feared that Americans might visit local casinos less if allowed to gamble in their own homes.

Barbra Streisand is a Liability

Barbra Streisand is a liability.

Maybe Hillary could pay back the contribution and in return Streisand could fly back to California and keep her ugly infuriating mouth shut.

Stay Strong and Courageous

It takes a lot of courage to stay true to yourself and your principles in Bush's America. This is a country that likes to fart loudly and often about freedom and liberty but in practice demands the most docile conformism from it's people.

So keep going - sooner or later someone will turn up, and the longer you go on being yourself, the more envious your conformist friends and associates will be. Republicans in particular just HATE people who are independent.

Good luck to you - shame about your 'taste' in music.

This is Frightening

When the Dems won their majority I really was foolish enough to believe they would put a stop to crimes like this.

Americans - you've got to stop this.

You've got to prosecute and imprison this criminal regime you have and make sure the "opposition" Dems don't forgive and forget and sigh and 'move on' this time next year when the criminals want to retire and dictate their memoirs and appear on Fox TV.

We're talking about the United States of America, the world's most powerful and proudest democracy, torturing people and then destroying the evidence.

This is frightening

Jesus Wasn't a Scientist

Does Jesus mention science even once in any of the gospels?!?

Does the word "science" appear even once in the Bible?

Americans don't want science, they don't need science, or scientists (who are often Liberals).

Americans need Jesus, they need the bible. They don't need or want science.

Science is the enemy of God.

Perhaps The Strategy is Do Nothing

There is a logical explanation of this incredible passive acceptance of the administration and it's plans.

In essence - Do nothing, as the administration and Republicans in general are so unpopular they will lose the next election automatically.

To actively oppose them is to run the risk of getting caught up in an argument (the horror!), or worse still being called 'unAmerican' and a 'terrorist enabler.'

Yes it's a gutless and pathetic strategy that is also cynical and immoral.

But it will work.

Original article: McCain: I've got Lieberman

Another Spit in the Face

Just when you (foolishly) think Lieberman couldn't be any worse, he spits in your face once again.

Connecticut voters - take note once again.

The man who ran as an "independent democrat" with "your interests at heart" has just endorsed a Republican for President.

Well, we shouldn't be too surprised. Lieberman has been supporting Bush for at least six years now.

It's All Over for Hillary

Hillary would make an excellent President, but unfortunately for her she doesn't appear dumb enough, amiable enough, and doesn't hide her ambition and nastiness enough.

It's a great shame, as it looks like America will once again be seduced by looks and youth and a general amicability.

Original article: Women need johns

Great Article

Thanks for a great article, Garrison.

Here in the UK, women have the exact same problem, although since the late 1970s (and probably before) "Ladettes" have been striding confidently into the men's toilets to do what a girl's got to do.

Really - it's no big deal, although it is monumentally stupid how women don't get extra stalls and more space in modern buildings.

Could Someone Please Explain to Me.....?

Could someone please explain to me the difference between the bi-partisanship that Senator Joe Lieberman espouses, and the bi-partisanship of Barack Obama?

I'm talking about policy here, obviously the two men have very different personalities.

The 21st Century Version of McCarthyism

Someday, hopefully in the not too distant future, students will be baffled and slightly ashamed to study the whole Guantanamo episode...

I suspect that, like McCarthyism, most Americans will quickly forget about the whole thing. For others, there will be a process of consciously forgetting.

What is certain is that neither President Bush, or any of his advisers will serve so much as a minute in jail for their crimes against humanity.

As progressive Liberals, it'll be up to us to keep the memory of Guantanamo alive in the hope that similar mistakes can be avoided in the rest of the 21st century. Is that asking too much?

Go go go!

Your husband doesn't want to be a 'quitter' and is giving his all to save this wretched business.

He's projecting his stress onto you, which is common - some of the nicest people I've met treat the ones they (allegedly) love most like marginally useful dog shit.

You left your first husband for some superficial reasons, and are hell-bent on not repeating this error.

Well, my advice is to go for a drive somewhere nice with your husband, ask him to shut up for 5 minutes, and tell him how you feel. Finish your tearful speech with an ultimatum - he has to choose between you and the restaurant. Give him a night to sleep on it, and ignore everything else he says.

When he wakes up in the morning - ask him what he's decided.

If he hasn't decided, leave him.

If he he's decided to keep the restaurant, leave him.

If he's decided to sell the business, put all your energy into selling the business, and if he changes his mind at some point during this process, leave him.

Once you've gotten rid of the restaurant, it may be time to relocate so you can both make a fresh start.

Good luck.

An aside: All businesses cook the books - the difference is successful businesses do so in a smart unobtrusive way. This is why it's not a good idea to elect politicians with business experience - business 'ethics' are much slacker than in other areas of life.
